Zach Ertz weighs in on the Jayden Daniels vs. Lamar Jackson comparison

NFL fans and media can’t resist comparing quarterbacks, especially those of the athletic, dual-threat variety. Michael Vick served as the measuring stick for dual-threat signal callers entering the NFL for the longest time, but that has now shifted to two-time MVP Lamar Jackson.

The latest to be compared to Jackson has been rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. It looks like the Washington Commanders have finally hit on a quarterback with the second pick in the draft, as LSU’s star signal-caller has been sensational through the first five games of his NFL career. Daniels was recently named the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week for his performance against the Cleveland Browns in Week 5. Daniels has won the award in just one week so far this season.

Veteran tight end Zach Ertz was asked if his rookie quarterback compares to Jackson ahead of the Commanders’ highly anticipated matchup with the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6.

It’s hard to compare anyone to Lamar,” said Ertz. “He has been a two-time MVP, one of the best players in the league for a long time. Jayden just played his fifth game in the league. We have every confidence in the world that he’ll be in this conversation for a long time, but I think it’s a disservice to both players, honestly. I can’t speak highly enough of (Lamar). I can’t speak highly enough of Jayden as well, but it’s still so early in his career and it’s all about continued success in this league.

The quarterbacks have led two of the league’s best offenses so far this season and will square off in the latest edition of the “Battle of the Beltway” on Sunday.
