Edible oil theft: Major edible oil theft racket busted in Ahmedabad: Seven arrested |

Seven caught stealing edible oil from tankers

Ahmedabad: The CID crimeAhmedabad area, uncovered a major racket where edible oil was stolen oil tankers and illegally filled 15 liter cans. The tanker driver paid Rs 900 for a 15 kg can, police said.
An FIR was registered on Friday against seven people by Laxman Rana, head of police with the CID crime. The complainant stated that Rahul Bharwad and Akhilesh Bhatia allegedly hired men and were involved in theft of edible oil by conspiring with the drivers of tankers carrying edible sunflower oil. The theft of edible oil was taking place in an open parking area on Sardar Patel Ring Road near Aslali Circle.
The FIR names Rahul Bharwad, 27, Kesharam Thakkar, 23, Jetharam Kadela, 19, Shankarlal Bisnoi, Suresh Yadav, Jagdish Karvar and Akhilesh Bhatia as accused in the incident. The complainant stated that all the individuals were caught illegally extracting oil from tankers destined for the Gokul industry and when questioned, they admitted that Bharwad and Bhatia connived with the tanker drivers to extract and sell oil with its economic profit.
Drivers were tricked into loosening the seals on the tankers, allowing the extraction of oil, which was then resealed. The FIR states that Thakkar and Kadela were paid Rs 15,000 and Rs 13,000 respectively for this job.
The FIR stated that during the search in the vicinity they found 22 metal boxes filled with edible oil in a nearby room. Among these, 15 boxes contained edible soybean oil, four boxes contained edible sunflower oil, and three boxes contained mixed edible oil. Each box contained 15 liters.
Officials said samples were taken from each box and sent for analysis to the FSL.
