What’s happening in Shropshire for Halloween? Here are some awfully good ideas

From fright-filled parties to witty half-term excursions, there’s plenty to do in Shropshire this spooky season.

October half term can be terrifying for all sorts of reasons – Halloween aside, it’s a wonderful thing to do with the kids as the weather turns and the nights draw in.

But fear no more as we’ve compiled a list of some of the terrifyingly good things Shropshire has to offer.

Battlefield 1403 Farm Shop, Upper Battlefield, Shrewsbury

For the first time ever, pumpkins are available to pick in Battlefield 1403.

The Pumpkin Patch is a short walk behind the farm shop, and is open on October 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20, as well as every day during half term.

No need to book and entry is free, just pay for the pumpkins of your choice!

Park Hall Farm, Oswestry

Park Hall’s annual Pumpkinfest returns this month, where every paying child will receive a pumpkin to carve.

The Halloween-themed event will be open on October 11th, 12th, 13th, 18th, 19th and 20th, and then every day between October 25th and November 3rd.

Activities include Pumpkin Alley, The Little Scare House and a Spooky Trail, and lots of fun and games each day of the event, including ‘Pass the Pumpkin’ and ‘Mummy Wrap’.

Wellington city centre

The Wellington Pumpkin Hunt is being held this year for local youngsters.

A wide range of local traders will create a ‘spooky route’ of pumpkins which will be on display in their shops for a week from Saturday 26th October to 2nd November.

Kids who want to participate should pick up a form at The Orbit, and those who complete the route and return to The Orbit with their answers can expect special Halloween treats.

Winston Farm, Ellesmere

Winston Farm will be open from 10am to 5pm on October 12th and 13th, as well as every day between October 19th and 31st.

Their homegrown pumpkins are three for £10, with many available in a variety of sizes.

Telford Exotic Zoo

Telford Exotic Zoo’s haunted trail has opened for Halloween

Visitors can pick their own pumpkins from a spooky trail through the enchanted woods, while the zoo also hosts a range of spooky activities.

From eating bugs to a spooky encounter, the zoo is Halloween-themed from October 12 to November 3, but pumpkin picking is available starting October 5.

Normal zoo admission fees apply, as well as the cost of a pumpkin.

Weston Park, near Shifnal

We encourage you little ghosts and goblins to come along to Weston’s Halloween Horrors this October half term on 29th, 30th and 31st October.

The four-acre walled garden has been transformed into an enchanted void with the return of the popular pumpkin patch.

A number of exciting activities are also taking place, including a spooky maze and a creepy critter show from Zoolabs.

Tickets are £6 per child plus standard ticket price, one pumpkin per child will be provided to carve on site or take home.

Alderford Lake, Whitchurch

Alderford Lake is home to another year of thrills and chills for the family

It’s another few years of family thrills and chills at Alderford Lake, with the return of Spooky Island experiences for over eights, Witchcraft Woods for under ten and the terrifying Nightmare Island.

The drive-in cinema at the beauty center is also back this year. Films listed this year include Ghostbusters (1984), Saw, Scooby Doo, It (2017), Hocus Pocus and The Conjuring.

Wonderland, Telford

A sell-out event for five consecutive years: Visitors are advised to book in advance for Wonderland’s ‘seriously spooky’ Halloween event.

Entertainment includes a trick-or-treat route around themed children’s canteen houses, a fire show, fire display, face painting and a spooky doll contortion act.

Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury

Visitors can find their perfect pumpkins in the gardens of The Cut Visitor Center in Shrewsbury for Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s Pumpkinfest.

Enjoy a pumpkin carving experience and a variety of Halloween crafts and activities between Monday 28th October and Thursday 31st.

Blists Hill Victorian Town

For Halloween, Friday 25th and Saturday 26th October, Blists Hill Victorian Town will host Ghostly Gaslight.

This year’s event will be a chilling, chilling night of Victorian-inspired horror, ghosts and nightmares.

Recommended for ages 13+, not for the faint of heart. The event will see Blists Hill transformed into a Victorian ghost town, with creepy costumed characters roaming the streets and terrifying happenings in the town’s exhibitions.

Visitors are encouraged to come in Halloween costumes.

Arscott Farm, Pontesford

Last year, Arscott’s team grew 100,000 pumpkins, and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The pumpkin patch is now open, and will be open every Friday to Sunday from 10am to 5.30pm throughout October and throughout half term.

Two after-dark torchlight photos are scheduled for October 19th and 26th.

Apley Farm Shop, Norton

Apley is having another year of Halloween celebrations from October 26-31.

Activities including entry into the spooky carving cavern and a ride on the Pumpkin Express run daily from 9.30am to 3.30pm as part of the Trick or Treat experience.

The pick your own pumpkin patch will also be open daily.

Trick or Treat tickets cost £12.95, adults accompanying ticketed children and under 2s go free.

Tickets must be purchased on the day for everyone attending pick-your-own-patch, but children under 2 are free.

Little Wytheford Farm, Shawbury

Another year of pumpkin picking returns to this famous Instagram spot in Shawbury.

The pumpkin patch is full of small and large versions of the winter squash, with prices starting at just 50p.

The visit to the farm is free and includes the use of carts and various photo sessions.

Llynclys Hall Farm Shop, Oswestry

Open from Saturday 5 October every day from 9am to 5pm until the end of the month.

Tickets cost £5.50 plus a booking fee, but just £3.50 for the first two weeks of the week.

Magical Malpas PYO Farm, Malpas

Open from 10am to 4pm every Wednesday, Friday and weekend, and every day during half term.

The farm also offers entry to a photo village and spooky corn maze, for £2 per person, while pumpkin prices start from £2.

BeWILDerwood, Cheshire

Just over the border in Cheshire, BeWILDerwood is introducing an exciting twist to its beloved Glowing Lantern Parade.

In a twist on traditional trick-or-treating, visitors are invited to dress up in their best Halloween costumes and stroll the magical path of light, discovering character doors along the way.

As they discover them, they’ll have the chance to “Twig or Treat” their favorite BeWILDerwood characters, enjoying a safe and fun trick-or-treating experience like no other.

Twig or Treat at The Glorious Glowing Lantern Parade will take place on select evenings from October 12th to November 3rd, with new earlier arrival times added to accommodate families with younger children as well! Arrival times start from 17.30 to 19.30 and the event lasts an hour and a half.
