Australia’s top bodybuilder reveals the secrets behind carving a platform like Arnold Schwarzenegger

It takes more than gym time to build a body identical to a young Arnold Schwarzenegger, but Australia’s top bodybuilder has revealed the secrets behind exactly how he got it.

Calum Von Moger, born in 1990 in Victoria, Australia, began his bodybuilding journey with a win at the NABBA Junior International Championships in 2011.

He rose to fame by achieving the title of WFF Mr. Universe three times, in 2011, 2014 and 2015.

In 2020, he earned his IFBB Pro card after winning the NPC Universe in Classic Physique.

Additionally, Von Moger is recognized for his role as Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 2018 film ‘Bigger’.

The casting of Von Moger was instrumental because of his striking likeness and physique similar to a young Schwarzenegger.

To prepare for the role, Von Moger immersed himself in Schwarzenegger’s early career, perfecting his accent and studying his mannerisms to deliver an authentic performance.

“This was a really cool experience,” said Von Moger, who appeared on Seven’s Weekend Sunrise on Saturday.

“I looked up to Arnold my whole life in bodybuilding and all that.

“I landed that gig, I got my manager in touch as a scout for Steve Jones, he was the producer.

‘He went to his place, he auditioned. I was looking for a tall, dark-haired, six-two Arnold. I fit some of the criteria.

Hosts Matt Doran and Monique Wright couldn’t resist giving her one more accent test.

Matt Doran: “Give Us Some”

Calum: “Get out of here (in Arnie’s voice)”

Monique Wright: “That’s great, get back in the helicopter”

Calum: “It’s not a tumor”

“Everybody asks, he’s got a bit of it, yeah,” Calum laughed.

But how did the three-time Mr Universe manage to cut his body into such peak condition that he could emulate Schwarzenegger?

“The gym is the first place, but I’ve been training for about 15 years, oh, I’d say 15 years,” he said.

“I started when I was 15 and just dedicated myself to the gym and diet.

‘Only regular and rigorous exercise.

“I got into it after following my older brother to the gym,” Van Moger continued.

“Then someone said why don’t you try out for the competition.

‘I did it and I did it very well. So I took a bug and went with it.

However, reaching Von Moger’s level of fitness requires extremely hard work and discipline, as he revealed to Weekend Sunrise.

“A disciplined day would be like getting ready for a show and (involves) waking up very early, walking fast, no food, I have to fast on an empty stomach,” he said.

‘Early in the morning I wake up on an empty stomach and then I go for a walk on a hill.

Then I eat eight meals a day. No big meals. not massive

‘Egg whites, oats, then I like chicken breast, beef or white rice or potato.

“Just all the important stuff.”

But when he’s not training for competition, all bets are off.

“Burgers, pizza, sushi, ice cream, snacks,” he laughed.

‘A lot of people do it the other way around. They start with that and then they have to do the diet.”
