Four officers, a dog allegedly attacked by a man who tried to commandeer a charter bus

A man has been arrested after four officers and a police dog were attacked in an incident on a chartered bus on Saturday morning.

SA Police said patrols were called to Franklin Street, Adelaide, about 5.45am on Saturday after reports an intoxicated man boarded a chartered coach loaded with passengers and attempted to drive away – him

Police said the man was in an agitated state when officers arrived and refused to get off the bus.

Police allege two officers were repeatedly punched in the head while trying to remove the man, and pepper spray was used unsuccessfully as the man continued to try to drive the bus.

“Officers attended the scene to assist and a third member was kicked in the head and suffered a fractured lip,” SA Police said in a statement.

“PD Edge was called to help remove the man from the bus, but he was also assaulted and his driver was punched in the face.”

The man was tasered, but was unable to get out of the bus seat, before pepper spray was used a second time and he was eventually pulled over and arrested, according to police.

A 28-year-old Adelaide man was taken to hospital for medical assessment and police said he could be charged with assaulting an emergency worker, attempted unlawful use and resisting arrest

Two officers were taken to hospital for treatment, while none of the approximately 40 bus passengers on board or the bus driver were injured.

A spokesman for the coach company, Grants Coachlines, told the ABC the tour had left for the Flinders Ranges.
