At the 10th meeting of the parties to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention), Ukraine blocked Russia’s participation in the Bureau of the Water Convention.

This was reported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources on Telegramaccording to Ukrinform.

The Ukrainian delegation briefed the conference participants on the environmental situation in Ukraine, highlighting in particular the consequences of Russia’s numerous violations that led to environmental disasters, including the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydropower Plant and the pollution of the Seym River, among others.

Delegates called on countries to join efforts to bring justice and hold Russia accountable for environmental crimes, especially those affecting water resources.

In the general meeting, a representative of the Ministry of Environment also presented the National Plan of Ukraine for cross-border cooperation and monitoring of water resources.
