Beyoncé at Kamala Harris’ Houston rally: See the best photos, videos

The two former Destiny’s Child members were introduced by Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles as the duo entered the rally for the group’s track “Independent women.”

“Welcome to this day, this remarkable day, this joyful day,” Rowland said during the rally. “A moment, Houston, when we take back the pen of those trying to write an American story of division and hate.”

“A moment when we take back the pen from those who are trying to write an American story about misogyny and racism,” she said. “We take back the pen of those trying to write an American story that would deny women the right to make our own decisions about our bodies.” Rowland encouraged us to “take back the pen” to write a new American story with the Democratic candidates for the 2024 presidential election.

Rowland said she voted for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Beyoncé supported the importance of voting and said it is the most valuable tool and right.

“I’m here as a mother,” she said. “A mother who cares deeply about the world my children and all our children live in.”

“Your vote is one of our most valuable tools and we need you,” she said. “Your freedom is your God-given right, your human right.”

In a nod to her career, Beyoncé told the crowd to write a new American song.

“It’s time for America to sing a new song,” she said. “Our voices sing a chorus of unity. They sing a song of dignity and opportunity.”
