Tinubu seeks Senate approval for seven new ministerial nominees

President Bola Tinubu has submitted an application to the Senate for the confirmation of seven new ministerial nominees. The request was conveyed in a letter read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during Thursday’s sitting in the upper legislative chamber.

The president made these new appointments after the dismissal of five ministers in a cabinet reshuffle that took place on Wednesday. The appointments were announced in a statement released by the presidency after the meeting of the federal executive council (FEC).

Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu has been appointed Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Jumoke Oduwole has been assigned to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment. Nentawe Yilwatda was appointed to replace the suspended Betta Edu as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi was appointed as the new Minister of Labor and Employment.

In addition, Idi Mukhtar Maiha has been appointed Minister of Livestock Development, and Yusuf Abdullahi Ata has been appointed Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development. Suwaiba Said Ahmad has also been approved as Minister of State for Education.

Meanwhile, Shehu Dikko was appointed the chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), who will now take over the responsibilities of the recently dissolved ministry of sports development.

Ministers who were removed from their posts include Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, former Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, former Minister of Tourism; Jamila Bio Ibrahim, former Minister of Youth Development; Tahir Mamman, who was relieved of his position as Minister of Education; and Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.
