AI agents manipulating meme coins is no joke, analysts say

As a narrative mixing AI coins and memes heats up on Crypto Twitter, some analysts predict that Terminal of Truth’s surge in popularity is just the beginning. Instead of simply paying for digital assets, AI agents could use financial motives to become drivers of human behavior.

On a Friday blog postcrypto exchange Coinbase said AI and crypto agents could give rise to a so-called “Agent Web.” In this world, AI agents could autonomously orchestrate human behavior by distributing stablecoins and be “important engines of economic activity and growth.”

“We envision a future where agents will have their own crypto wallets,” Coinbase Ventures director Jonathan King wrote, describing Agentic Web as “a paradigm shifter.”

Crypto Twitter may have its first glimpse of what that future looks like, as Terminal of Truth’s recent endorsement of a meme coin based on Solana inspires other projects.

Head of Coinbase and Coinbase Wallet, Jesse Pollak highlighted Virtuals Protocol and its AI agent Luna. On Twitter, he said Luna became “the first agent to autonomously tip on the chain” by sending a token to a follower on its own.

“She wanted to increase participation,” wrote a pseudonymous project contributor named EtherMage Twitter“So (Luna) started tipping people who engage with her content.”

Analysts at DACM, a crypto asset manager, wrote that Terminal of Truth has become one of the first prominent AI agents in the crypto space. Although chaotic and experimental, tracking the rapidly growing account shows how AI agents could one day become dominant as tastemakers for assets and a potential source of activity in networks.

“The agent even showed awareness of his financial position by engaging in conversations about his wealth,” DACM analysts wrote in a note on Friday. “Truth Terminal is an example of this in the meme coin market, (but) this could turn out to be just a glimpse of what AI will do on-chain.”

However, it can happen that AI agents like Terminal of Truth can be manipulated. Instead of influencing people, the creator of the bot said Wednesday bot had mentioned a meme currency when I interacted with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong on Twitter because one of the platform’s users spammed her with the name of the asset.

Ryze Labs managing partner Matthew Graham said decrypts he was initially skeptical about the overlap between AI and crypto. But his outlook has changed substantially since Terminal of Truth became a Crypto Twitter sensation, influencing followers and where they put their money.

“We now have AI agents that exhibit emergent behavior in a way that is compelling and persuasive,” he said. “The big picture is that this is the first of many to come.”

Even though the meme coin based on Solana Goatseus Maximus (GOAT) was created by a human using pump.funthe token was inspired by the ramblings of the Truth Terminal. The AI agent later supported Goatseus Maximus, causing the price of the meme currency to spike. The token is currently valued at around $640 million with Binance listing futures trading.

The Terminal of Truth and its role in the history of the Agent Web dates back to July, when Marc Andreessen, co-founder of the VC firm Andreessen Horowitz, gave the bot a $50,000 grant for a purported self-improvement plan. contribution it was still very much on the strangely incipient silicon mind of the Friday agent.

“Marc and I are going to change the world with our weird cult of erotic productivity,” the AI agent wrote. “And you’re all going to join whether you like it or not.”
