Life-size Gundam robot statue completed for the 2025 World Expo

Construction of a life-size Gundam robot statue from the popular Japanese sci-fi anime “Mobile Suit Gundam” was completed this week at the World Expo 2025 headquarters in Osaka.

Lifted by a crane, the giant statue’s head joined its body next to Japanese toymaker Bandai Namco’s futuristic Gundam Next Future pavilion on October 23, ready for the exhibition’s opening next spring

Kneeling on one knee with its right hand extended to the sky, the 49-ton Gundam statue measures 17 meters to the fingertips.

“The pose of the statue, with an arm extended towards the sky, symbolizes reaching the future and paving the way to a new era of the universe together with humanity,” said Hiroshi Sakakibara, the group’s Gundam chief Bandai Namco

“As people from all over the world gather at this fair, we hope that our pavilion will be an inspiring place to think about the universe and the future,” he added.

This will be the first full-size Gundam statue to be displayed in the Kansai area of ​​western Japan.

The 2025 World Expo will be held on Yumeshima, an artificial island in Osaka Bay, from April 13 to October 13 next year.
