How Ruben Gallego and Kari Lake Compare on Immigration – NumbersUSA

NumbersUSA, the nation’s largest nonpartisan immigration reform organization, has released a detailed comparison of Ruben Gallego (D) and Kari Lake’s (R) immigration voting records and public stances to help inform the Arizona voters.

Gallego received an F- career grade for his support of open borders and radical immigration policies. Lake, on the other hand, reliably supports policies to secure the border and reduce the number of immigrants.

“Gallego claims that, if elected, he will ‘pave the way to a better immigration system for everyone,'” said Eric Ruark, director of research at NumbersUSA. “But he does not support a single reform recommended by NumbersUSA in our candidate comparison, a chart that makes it easy for voters to see where he and Lake stand on major immigration issues, from mandating E-Verify to raising the bar for asylum”.

NumbersUSA combed through years of Gallego’s roll call votes and bill sponsorships, along with his and Lake’s statements and interviews, to create the nonpartisan comparison chart.

Gallego has one of the worst lifetime ratings of any member for his open border policies, from supporting mass amnesty to opposing asylum reform and E-Verify. He also voted against the Secure the Border Act (HR 2), the strongest border security law in decades, which would have dramatically reduced illegal immigration.

Lake, on the other hand, supports ending chain migration, eliminating the visa lottery, clarifying birthright citizenship, stopping mass amnesty and mandating E-Verify, among other tough border policies.

Arizonans rank immigration among their “most important issues” this election cycle, second only to inflation.

“Border security could determine the outcome of this Senate race and control of the entire chamber,” Eric said. “Arizonans who are concerned about immigration should tune out the TV commercials and compare the actual records of Gallego and Lake.”
