File footage from 1972 shows Geoff Capes talking about his determination to succeed as a pitcher.

The British record holder and two-time world’s strongest man died on Wednesday aged 75.

He was a policeman in Cambridgeshire when he told the BBC’s Nationwide program that it was worth spending almost all of his salary on food to gain weight.

He said: “It’s worth £20 a week just for me to eat. I’m into athletics. It’s worth it to me to get to the top and be something.”
