Arne Slot says Mohamed Salah’s withdrawal was made with Sunday’s trip to Arsenal in mind as Liverpool beat RB Leipzig 1-0 in the Champions League.

Salah grabbed his seventh assist of the season when match-winner Darwin Núñez headed home, but the Egypt captain kept calm as Slot’s side grabbed their third consecutive victory in the renewed European Cup after victories against AC Milan. and Bologna.

Salah was taken off by Luis Diaz on 63 minutes and Slot has confirmed the change was made ahead of the weekend when their Premier League leaders will look to go seven points clear of Arsenal.

Asked about Salah’s replacement, Slot said: “It’s a difficult fixture list. Curtis Jones was the same, he hasn’t played 90 minutes yet. Now we have some injuries so I have to look after the players. Sunday is big. s It’s getting closer to the game and I need to use as many players as I can for these difficult months.

“We have to be proud because so many great teams have worn this shirt and so many great managers have been at the club, so to achieve something that hasn’t been done before is almost impossible and it’s always nice. But there is something that is much. nicer than records and you know what I mean;

“I don’t think we started the game very well, but after the first 15 minutes I really liked what I saw. We played with their press and opened attacks many times, which led to the first goal and many others occasions

“It’s a shame at the end of a game like this when you need big roles from your two centre-backs and the goalkeeper. A game like this should have been ours after 60-70 minutes.

“It’s good to see all our players scoring. Up front, Cody and Mo were as important as Darwin. But Darwin was strong, comfortable on the ball, fighting if he had to defend and making it very difficult for Leipzig’s two centre-backs.

“If you play a big team away they are always going to have moments. I liked that in this game we had total dominance like in every other game apart from Chelsea. I was more worried after Chelsea. This was much more to my liking see him, my team had a lot more possession.”
