Unveiling a literary treasure: the rare typescript of “The Little Prince”

A rare typescript of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved novel ‘The Little Prince’ will soon hit the market with a hefty price tag of $1.25 million. Described as a “literary treasure” by booksellers, this unique copy contains extensive handwritten corrections by the author himself.

Written during his exile in New York in the midst of World War II, this French typescript is one of only three in existence. It offers insight into Saint-Exupéry’s creative process and includes what is believed to be the first appearance of a famous phrase: ‘Only with the heart can one see correctly; the essential is invisible to the eyes.’

Offering a unique insight into the making of a classic, the artefact will be on display at Abu Dhabi Art from November 20-24. Bookseller Sammy Jay notes that this is the most exceptional example he has come across, with original sketches and unmatched in its representation of the author’s original vision.
