The Raspberry Pi Foundation brings its own NVMe SSDs to market

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has the new specialized NVMe-SSDs for the Raspberry Pi 5 erweitert. SSDs have a variation of 256 GByte and 512 GByte. Beide Modelle setzen auf den PCI Express 3.0 Standard and the format compatible with M.2-2230-Format.

Technical details noch nicht final geklärt

The Pi 5 offers a single PCIe lane and officially supports only PCIe 2.0. Nevertheless, the unofficial System also reaches PCIe 3.0-Geschwindigkeiten, was Übertagungsraten von bis zu 1 GByte/s ermöglicht. Whether the SSD can achieve higher speeds in devices with multiple PCIe lanes is not currently known. Bisher schweigt die Foundation zu weiteren Leistungsdaten wie dem verwendenten Controller oder den NAND-Flash-Bausteinen.

Prices and availability

The 256GByte SSD cable for US$30, with a 512GByte version for US$45. Wer die SSD direct an den Einplatinencomputer anschließen möchte, need eine spezielle Adapter-Platen die für 10 US-Dollar bebeligible ist. The current version is 256 GByte with its version. Die 512-GByte-Variante kann vorbestellt werden und soll bis Ende November ausgeliefert werden. Deutsche Händler sollen die SSD soon in ihr Program aufnehmen, sods auch hierzulande Nutzer von der neuen Speicherlösung können benefit. Mit der Einführung dieser NVMe-SSDs erweitert die Raspberry Pi Foundation nun reneute ihr Portfolio.
