As Sean “Diddy” Combs continues to drown in legal turmoil and professional obliteration, his legal team has filed a motion for an evidentiary hearing, accusing the government of colluding with the mainstream media to bring him down and destroy what remains of his reputation as a tycoon and pillar of culture, undermining their right to a fair trial.

according to variety, In the memorandum filed Wednesday, the government’s “scheme” includes numerous attempts to ensure that the Bad Boy founder will not receive fair treatment in court, and asks the court to remedy the situation, which could include disqualifying witnesses, suppressing of video evidence, and even the complete dismissal of all charges in his indictment.

One thing Diddy’s lawyers seem to blame on the government is the leaking of the video of him brutally attacking his girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura.

Variety:

In the memo, they point to four different tactics of government misconduct, the most egregious being CNN’s leak of Combs allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura in 2016. His lawyers say neither Ventura nor a third party were the likely sources of the leak. , as Ventura would have described in more detail in his sexual assault lawsuit, and a third party would have tried to sell it. Thus, they point to the government as the most viable culprit given the timing of the film’s release.

yes – you know your case looks pretty abysmal when your lawyers file a speculative motion that basically says: It’s the government’s fault to show the world that I’m a monster.

In fact, it almost seems like Diddy’s legal team is taking cues from the conspiracy theorists’ corner of the internet, where how about it is treated as legitimate critical thinking and pretty much everything is a “distraction”.

More from Variety:

They claim that federal agents must have known in advance that there would be a break in Donald Trump’s hush money trial for the former president to attend his son Barron Trump’s graduation and that the timing of May 17 was “perfect timing, as it was a slow news day.” After CNN broke the video, the attorney claims the government took no further action and is asking for an evidentiary hearing to determine whether an agent provided the tape to CNN.

Of course, none of this would explain why the government would have any interest in the outcome of Diddy’s case. It’s not like Diddy is Malcolm X or a top member of the Black Panther Party. It’s not even Tupac. The most glaring logical point missing from the they were hot The narrative that “the powers that be are always trying to bring down a powerful black man” is that the black man in question is always someone like R. Kelly, Bill Cosby, or, in this case, Diddy, and none of them ever he has done it seen as a threat to the system. They are not radicals or even activists. Why the hell would the government go into full COITELPRO mode for any of them?

However, Diddy’s team also accuses the government of conspiring against their client by raiding Combs’ residences in Los Angeles and Florida in broad daylight in a deliberate effort to maximize media exposure. Lawyers say that during the Los Angeles raid, which took place in March, reporters were at the scene “before the crime scene tape was put up,” suggesting that the Department of Homeland Security alert the media in advance. The motion also accuses the government of victimizing Combs’ children by subjecting them to a parade in full view of the media. The lawyers accused the DHS of trying to “savage Mr. Combs’ reputation before the trial” by using numerous leaks in addition to the Cassie video over the past seven months.

It’s not clear when the presiding judge will rule on the matter, but it seems a long shot. We’ll see what happens though
