Explosion rocks Turkey’s defense industry complex in Ankara

TURKEY — An explosion hit the door of the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) headquarters near Ankara on Wednesday, causing multiple casualties. The Turkish authorities described it as terrorism.

TUSAS is a manufacturer of engines for the Turkish defense industry. A series of explosions and gunfire were heard during live footage released by the IHA news agency. Police and other emergency crews were dispatched to the headquarters.

Turkey’s HaberTurk TV said workers took shelter at the site.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya called the explosion a “terrorist attack”, saying there were casualties. Yerlikaya did not provide further details.

“A terrorist attack has been carried out against the Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. facility in Kahramankazan, Ankara,” Yerlikaya wrote to X.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
