Labor donor Lord Alli broke House of Lords rules four times | Policy | news

His colleague Lord Alli was found to have committed four minor breaches of his register of interests.

A House of Lords commissioner for the standards inquiry recommended that he write a letter of apology for the breaches.

The report said: “While I consider each individual breach of the Code to be minor, I have found there to be four breaches in total and have therefore recommended that Lord Alli write a letter of apology to the Chair of the Conduct Committee , the Baroness. Manningham-Buller.”

Lord Alli correctly registered his trusteeship of the Charlie Parsons Foundation, but should also have included his position as an unpaid director of the foundation.

He was also found to have prematurely removed entries relating to his role at Silvergate BP Bidco Limited and was late in registering his interest as an unpaid director of MAC (BVI) Limited.

Lord Alli wrote in a letter: “I am writing to you today to apologize for my misconduct in failing to properly register my interests.

“I will strive to uphold the Code of Conduct at all times to avoid such circumstances again.”

It comes after the Labor donor hit the headlines after it emerged he gave tens of thousands of pounds in gifts including clothes and glasses to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
