Liam Payne’s father has cooperated with police as they investigate the death of his only son on October 16.

The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 said in a press release on Tuesday that Geoff Payne “expressed his desire for an investigation and knowledge of what happened and expressed to the prosecutor his willingness to testify about everything that knows about her son’s life, which may help the investigation.”

The musician’s father arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where his son died from a balcony on the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo hotel on October 18.

Photos and videos of his arrival at the hotel show the patriarch looking at the memorial from fans outside and standing on the balcony from where Liam fell.

Geoff first arrived to identify his son’s body and take it home to his native England. However, according to the statement, “the toxicological and histopathological studies complementary to the autopsy have not yet been completed and their results are necessary to release the body.”

It is also unclear when a full post-mortem will be completed and when his body could be returned to the UK. In the meantime, Geoff will remain in Argentina and “will receive dynamic police support until the end of the legal proceedings,” according to the statement.

However, a family friend told the Daily Mail: ‘Geoff has been told it could take up to 10 days for the tests to be completed and for Liam to be brought home.

“He is finding the whole situation very difficult. Geoff is heartbroken to lose his son.

“But she’s promised to make it right with Liam and she’s not coming home without him. It’s the uncertainty of not knowing when this ordeal will end that’s what she’s having a hard time dealing with.”

As for a possible timeline for when the results might be ready, the family friend said: “Argentinean officials say they expect the results to take ten days, but it could be much less time than that.”

Amid their investigation, authorities are looking into Liam’s phone and computer, as well as photographs and security camera footage.

Likewise, they affirm in their press release that “numerous statements have also been taken to reconstruct the last hours of the victim and the scene of the events, a process that is still ongoing with hotel workers, acquaintances, technicians and health workers, and other people linked to the victim through their work”.

This latest development comes just days after a partial autopsy revealed the former One Direction singer had multiple drugs in his system at the time of his death, including cocaine, crack and benzodiazepines, which is a type of depressant .

The test also found “pink cocaine,” a recreational drug that typically mixes methamphetamine, ketamine, MDMA and others, according to the outlet.

It was previously reported that authorities believed the “For You” singer had been high on “crystal,” a substance that “causes users to experience extreme highs and lows, often making them aggressive.”

At the time of his death, several eyewitnesses recalled seeing the singer acting erratically in the hotel lobby.

A preliminary autopsy report also showed that the father of one suffered a fractured skull and multiple traumas from the fall that resulted in internal and external bleeding.

During the initial investigation, Page Six confirmed that alcohol and controlled substances were found in his ransacked hotel room.

In fact, the singer, who had previously been open about his addictions and mental health struggles, had caused those around him to fear that his life was over due to drugs.

A source told Page Six on Tuesday, “This is the ending that everyone prayed wouldn’t happen, but worried it would happen.”
