International award-winning star uses music to fight drugs in Mamelodi

For decades, music has been used to bring people together and address some of the social ills.

Multi-award winning artiste Jamela Vuma aka J Ross together with his wife Megan hope to use their gift as a musician to bring hope to one of Pretoria’s townships, Mamelodi.

The star, who has previously opened up about his struggles with fame and drug addiction, says his upcoming event, Kasi Worship, will bring transformation to the community that faces a huge problem with substance abuse.

“Our goal this year is to bring hope, healing and transformation to Mamelodi,” say event organizers.

Vuma says show attendees will have access to resources and information about community service initiatives aimed at fighting poverty and drug addiction.

The event will also feature the likes of Retief Burger and popular acapella group Abathandwa.

“This emphasis on community engagement is central to the concert’s vision of creating lasting and meaningful change,” organizers said in a statement.

The internationally award-winning singer and actor says the event, which is scheduled to take place on November 30 at Moretele Park, is aiming to attract 15,000 attendees.

“This is not just a concert; it’s a movement Our hope is that attendees leave feeling spiritually renewed and inspired to serve their communities.”
