Court refuses to stop PDP from postponing October 24 NEC meeting in Abuja

The Federal High Court, Gusau Division, Zamfara State, has refused to stop the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from postponing the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 24 at Wadata House in Abuja.

The court specifically refused to entertain the application to prevent the party from shifting the NEC parliament it was due to hold to its National Secretariat in Abuja, where the leadership tussle rocking the party is expected to be resolved.

In a ruling on an ex-parte application filed by a chieftain of the party in Zamfara State, Mr. Imam Auwal, Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim refused to issue an interim injunction restraining the PDP from changing the NEC meeting on 24 October.

A certified copy of the order obtained by DAILY POST showed that the order was signed by the judge.

The PDP boss, through his lawyer Ibrahim Ali, in the ex-parte application had asked the court to issue an interlocutory order against the PDP, restraining it from adjourning the next NEC meeting on Thursday.

He also sought a court order barring the recognition of any other meeting of the NEC except the one scheduled for October 24.

Auwal further asked the court to issue an interim order against the National Working Committee (NWC) or any organ of the party to recognize the suspended National Vice Chairman of the PDP in the South East region, Mr. Ali Odeifa as national officer of the party

However, after taking the arguments of the plaintiff’s counsel in the ex-parte motion marked FHC/GS/CS/68/2024, the judge declined to entertain any of the requests sought by the chief of the PDP.

Rather, Justice Ibrahim ordered the plaintiff to give notice to the defendants in the matter regarding the merits.

The judge only granted a time limit to hear the matter and fixed Friday, October 25 for both parties to appear before him.

The aggrieved party boss had also sought an interlocutory order against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), preventing it from receiving any correspondence or communication of any nature from the PDP unless a substantive national chairman is appointed in agreement with Article 47(6). ) of the PDP Constitution.

The petition was also rejected by Justice Ibrahim.
