Phil Parkinson hails ‘decent point’ as Wrexham at Huddersfield

Phil Parkinson was pleased with Wrexham’s points total from their last two games after they grabbed a hard-earned point against Huddersfield to finish second in League One.

Wrexham’s Ryan Barnett had the best chance of the game in the first half but found Jacob Chapman equal to his effort.

But after following up the win over Rotherham with a solid point against the Terriers, Parkinson believes it’s a total many would have taken at the top.

He said: “It was a hard-fought tie.

“I thought we were the better team in the first half. We dominated for periods and just couldn’t get the momentum going.

“They changed shape and flattened the midfield in the second half and credit for that, and it became an even tighter game.

“It was always going to be like this, with no given quarters, and it was a high-quality game in terms of two very structured teams out of possession and giving very little. Give them credit, they made it difficult for us, but all the same, I thought our guys stuck to their jobs.

“It was a real game-changer for us and I just said to the lads in there that if we got four points before the Rotherham game, from Rotherham and Huddersfield, I think most people would have taken that. It’s a point decent

“It was two teams that gave everything and neither found the moment to win the game.”

Huddersfield moved up to fifth and boss Michael Duff was pleased with how his side withstood Wrexham’s pressure in the first half.

He said: “I’m happy with how we got through a tough start. We’ve talked about our mindset and our mentality, because when there’s a bit of heat (in previous games) we haven’t been down to the task, we didn’t stay with how we wanted to see.

“At half-time I thought about the back three and the goalkeeper kept us in the game. We adjusted a couple of things in the half and I thought we fought for control of the game.

“They are going to have some attack because they are a good team. I’ve just been told they’ve scored 15 goals in five games but we’ve limited them to one shot on target.

“At the time I thought we were going to be the ones to do it, but a couple of things didn’t quite fall our way.

“The real positive is that they took the information and delivered it and that’s been the criticism of when the heat has come, we’ve sunk a bit and not today, so hopefully that’s a positive step.”
