Camarda reflects on ‘best day of my life’ after UCL debut: ‘VAR played a trick on me’

Francesco Camarda became the youngest Italian to play in the Champions League on Tuesday evening. After the game, he spoke to the media and reflected on the “best day of my life”.

As a result of Tammy Abraham’s injury and Luka Jovic not being included in the UCL list, Paulo Fonseca decided to call up Camarda for the match. The coach hinted before the game that a cameo was possible, depending on the result.

So when Milan went 3-1 up, Camarda came in and even found the back of the net. Unfortunately, it was ruled out for a narrow but correct offside. Speaking to Sky Italia (via MilanNews) after the game, Camarda shared his thoughts on the debut.

“The record makes me very proud. And it pushes me to give more to improve myself and make nights like this happen more often.”

About the disallowed goal…

“It was the best feeling of my life, then VAR played a trick on me. I’m very disappointed, but these things happen, especially in football these days. I want to do more.”

Is this the best day of your life, aside from the forbidden goal?

“Yes, absolutely, it’s the best day of my life. I can’t find the words to describe it.”

When did you realize you could become a professional soccer player?

“Tough question. I don’t know, you always dream of a night like this. You picture it in your head, in the park. It really happened and what happens, happens.”

At just 16 years and 226 days, he became the youngest Milan and Italian player ever to feature in the competition. It scored a 6.5/10 in our player ratings for its liveliness, which is certainly impressive.
