Tehran threatens jail for Iranians who share clips of Israeli attacks

Tehran threatened Iranian citizens with long prison terms if they shared footage of them Israel’s retaliatory strikes since Friday night with the western, British media Telegraph reported Saturday.

Iranian police reportedly warned civilians that sharing evidence of the attacks with “hostile media affiliated with the Zionist regime” would lead to 10 years in prison.

Iran has strict censorship laws, but many citizens circumvent them with VPNs, allowing them to access sites restricted by the Islamic regime.

Citizens who risk access Western media or restricted sites play with their lives according to Telegraphbecause the most serious charge of violating Tehran’s internet laws can carry the death penalty.

While the regime acknowledged that Israel had successfully struck military sites in Tehran, southern Khuzestan and western Ilam, officials in Tehran claimed that their air defenses “successfully intercepted and countered this aggressive action” – admitting that only ” limited damage was caused in some areas”.

Civilians are suffering

Residents spoke with telegraphvoicing their concerns and anxieties as the escalation between the Islamic regime and the Jewish state continues to flare. The comments came as Iranian media tried to project an image of normality in the wake of the attacks.

“I didn’t do anything to deserve this,” said Ali, a resident of Tehran, speaking to telegraph. “I was woken up by my cousin, he was worried and asked me what to do.”

“Now it has turned into a disturbing routine for us,” he added. “We are tired of this circle. Now, we should worry about the Iranian response.”

Mohsen, another resident, told the newspaper that he kept his daughter home for school because of concerns about her mental health.

“She has been under intense pressure since she heard about the war and I don’t want her to hear anything today,” he said.
