With Pep Guardiola’s side seemingly on course to drop points, the Stones stepped up with another late goal to secure all three points.

Controversial John Stones goal against Wolves

The goal came in controversial circumstances. It had initially been overturned when the referees checked the offside call on Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese winger leaned on goalkeeper Jose Sa when the ball arrived. After a review at the side of the pitch, referee Chris Kavanagh awarded the goal.

The decision infuriated O’Neil, who lashed out at Premier League officials during his post-match conference. The 41-year-old hinted that decisions are far more likely to go the way of the “bigger” teams in the Premier League.

“There’s no way people are deliberately anti-Wolves, that’s for sure. But is there something subconscious about the decision-making? Without even knowing it, they’re more likely to give Man City than Wolves?” he said, as quoted by Hayters TV.
