Elderly man kills wife and kills him in Pa. nursing home, prosecutor says – NBC10 Philadelphia

A 90-year-old man has died from his injuries after he killed his 89-year-old wife and then shot himself at a Chester County nursing home, officials said.

The shooting happened on Thursday, October 24 at the Manatawny Manor nursing home in East Coventry Township, Pennsylvania. An 89-year-old patient was in her nursing home room when a 90-year-old man, later identified as her husband, walked in, pulled out a gun and shot her, investigators said.

The man then shot himself in the head, according to investigators. He was taken to Reading Hospital, where he died overnight, and the incident was ruled a murder-suicide, the Chester County District Attorney’s office said Friday.

Prosecutor Christopher Barrena-Sarobe said another patient was in the room where the shooting occurred, but that person was not physically injured during the incident.

Investigators said the murder weapon was recovered from the scene and there is currently no threat to the public or anyone else at the nursing home.
