SEAL Team Chief Reveals How Much of Season 7 Was Written Before Cancellation News Dropped

SEAL team it was one of many the shows that ended were canceled in 2024with the military drama officially debuting its series finale earlier this month. This was announced late last year SEAL will end after season 7and the show managed, above all, to shut down Bravo in the middle of the 2024 TV schedule. Now, EP Spencer Hudnut reveals how far into Season 7 was written before the cancellation news.

While protagonist of the series David Boreanaz was ready SEAL team to finishthis does not mean that the decision was made immediately. The series was renewed for a seventh season in January 2023, with news of his disappearance that November. That’s a long time between renewal and cancellation, and unfortunately enough time to get pretty far into the script without knowing the end was coming. Here’s what happened, as Spencer Hudnut said TVLine that season 7 was almost complete when Paramount+ decided to ax the show:

When we broke this season, at the time it was 90% written, I had no idea this was going to be the last. It wasn’t really until very late in the process that I realized this was going to be it, and I really only had three acts of the final episode to “land the plane.”

It’s certainly not ideal for a development like this to come in the middle of writing a series finale. Chances are, if the producer had known from the jump that the show was going to end, much of the season, including the finale, would have been different. At least Spencer Hudnut found out before he finished writing, which wasn’t as bad as finding out after completing the script. After all, the end of the series SEAL it still wrapped up storylines and provided closure to characters, even splitting some from Bravo. Even if it wasn’t the ending Hudnut might have had in mind, I still dug it.

What certainly helped was the fact that the first part of the season had already set up several characters to move on or put them on paths that made them see more closely what they were doing. However, Spencer Hudnut admitted that David Boreanaz’s Jason received “a different ending than he wanted at the beginning of the season.” Regardless, the final episodes were still emotional and heartwarming sentimental publications of the SEAL team distribution.

One thing that was disappointing, however, was because of his busy schedule Country of Fire, Max Thieriot could not appear activated SEALthe last season. Sure, his character died in Season 6, but there was still hope that he could still return as Clay Spenser in a flashback or dream sequence. At the very least, Clay was mentioned occasionally, and Alona Tal continued to appear as the character’s wife, Stella.

I wonder how SEAL teamThe series finale would have played out if the writers had paid more attention. Also, I’m thinking about how the plot would have changed if an eighth season had been ordered.
