A new $60 million multi-purpose sports venue is set to be built in Devonport, with state-of-the-art facilities for seven different sporting codes.

The venue will include a new four-court community use facility, a two-court events centre, outdoor basketball and netball courts and high performance training and indoor cricket facilities.

This project is a partnership between the Tasmanian Government, the Federal Government and Devonport City Council.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the facility would benefit the entire North West and West Coast region.

“We have a lot to be proud of when it comes to our sporting ability and those who have started their careers on the North West Coast and really expanded their horizons in elite sport through the sporting codes and across the country,” he said.

“(The) multi-purpose sports facility … will enhance the existing sports here when it comes to athletics, football, cycling, but it will also bring indoor facilities such as netball and basketball.”

Mayor Alison Jarman said the project is “more than just a sports facility”.

“It will strengthen our community, promote active living and serve as a platform for future sporting talent, while continuing to celebrate our long-standing sporting culture,” he said.

Award-winning Tasmanian construction company Fairbrother has been appointed to build the precinct, with CEO Kurt Arnold saying they hope to create facilities that will bring lasting benefits to the community.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.

The project will be presented to the council for approval on Monday night.
