We allow Jennifer Lawrence months of maternity style analysis

We allow Jennifer Lawrence months of maternity style analysis

It’s been two days since Jennifer Lawrence’s reps confirmed that the actor is expecting her second child with Cooke Maroney, and the Internet is already abuzz with talk of her cool mom flats (The Row’s Canal slip-ons, as you asked for it). But wouldn’t it be great if we – yes, we know we play a role in driving pregnancy mastery – didn’t weigh in? everything Lawrence wears from now until birth. Just a suggestion! Because spoiler alert: It’s likely the same mix of The Row, Leset and Loewe that the 34-year-old wears every day.

Following the announcement that her two-year-old son Cy will soon welcome a sibling, Lawrence has already rocked a favorite Lemon Bode tee with sweet embroidery, which she accessorised with wide-leg trousers (the La Ligne’s Colby style are a J-Law staple), Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s Slouchy bag (a high take on that ubiquitous Uniqlo belt) and those classic Canal pumps. It was, therefore, as always. No personality transplant, no new purchase to signal her next life chapter, no silhouette change to artfully orchestrate a “bump reveal,” despite the paparazzi’s best efforts to insist. In fact, if Lawrence’s press team hadn’t shared their news, the expectant mother might not have even shared it, amazing! – I’ve been photographed running errands in LA.

Of course, now the Oscar winner will have to put up with tabloids trying to determine her due date based on the size of her stomach. Just what every woman wants! No wonder Lawrence has been living in roomy shirts from Luka (The Row) and Yoko (Leset) to throw them off course. We would too. Those wrong shoes we all love to fetishize? Turns out they’re an excellent diversionary tactic.

Lawrence is following in the Alaïa-clad footsteps of fellow Hollywood star Margot Robbie, whose body has been relentlessly commented on throughout her pregnancy with her first baby. “Are we so far from the mirror that we are now shaming women for being pregnant?” writer Claire Cohen asked in response to Reddit trolls who were “checking out” Robbie’s body for fun. “Perhaps it shouldn’t surprise us, when we’re already routinely shamed for looking our age or having had ‘too much’ work done, that we’re too obsessed with our appearance or ‘letting go’.” After two days, can we all agree not to obsess over another of Tinseltown’s most talked about and subsequently most private talents? We could, radicals! – leave her alone.
