A mother who was in the Uber that crashed into Brisbane Broncos star Ezra Mam has broken her silence and revealed her daughter broke her hip in the crash.

Mum’s Ford Ranger and the Toyota containing the woman and her four-year-old daughter collided in the north Brisbane suburb of Bardon last Friday.

According to reports, the 21-year-old was moving out of the house when the incident happened.

The woman has now revealed that both she and her daughter were hospitalized following the “traumatic” incident.

“She (her daughter) has a fractured hip … she has very bad burns from the friction of the seat belt,” the woman told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Queensland Police conducted roadside tests at the scene of the crash, with Mam allegedly failing a drug test but testing negative for alcohol.

Police and the NRL Integrity Unit are now investigating the incident and are awaiting the results of a secondary drugs test, which could take weeks.

“I remember looking up and immediately, I saw this car swerving in front of us. I knew what was going to happen next,” the woman said.

“I also remember saying ‘I need to get out, I can’t breathe’. The Uber driver got out of the vehicle … to let us out … the door was stuck, it wouldn’t open.”

The woman was unimpressed with the media attention on the Broncos star, saying there was “no mention of my Uber driver or us.”

She said she has been contacted by Brisbane Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy but has not received a call from Mam.

Mam’s management released a statement on Monday saying the star is seeking “immediate professional treatment” in rehab.

“Ezra is extremely remorseful,” the statement said.

‘He is concerned, first and foremost, for the other parties involved and understands the enormity of the current situation.

“He recognizes that he is facing some personal challenges and, following these recent events, he has taken a proactive step by seeking immediate professional treatment.

“We will continue to support him throughout this process and will not be commenting further at this time.”

Lawyer Tom Taylor, who is regarded as one of Canberra’s most successful criminal defense lawyers, has warned the mother could face jail in the worst case scenario.

“The precise nature of the charges will really depend on the evidence that is collected as part of this investigation,” he told Nine’s Today program on Monday.

“There is some public information that is known about it at this stage, but there is still a way to go.

“The types of charges and the consequences that will come from those charges will really depend on the evidence that is collected.”

Police have alleged that Mam was also driving without a license at the time of the accident.

However, Taylor says that might be the least of mom’s worries.

“The two biggest charges are really the charges that relate to the drug (allegedly) in his system, if the blood sample that was taken at the hospital confirms the presence of a drug in his system,” Taylor said.

“If there were injuries to (the occupants of the other car), then the driving and (alleged) drug driving charges are the ones to be most concerned about.

“Potentially, if injuries were sustained, it could be up to 14 years in prison.”
