Washington County charges 27, including four in Marietta shooting and Beverly Police Chief Bumbalough

A Washington County grand jury indicted 27 people Wednesday morning, including four people, for their involvement in a September shooting on Greene Street in Marietta that left a woman shot in the face.

The grand jury also indicted Beverly Police Chief Todd Bumbalough in a domestic violence incident involving a minor family member.

Kylar James Wilson, 20, 731 Greene St., Marietta, was indicted on one count of first-degree felony attempt to commit a felony, with a firearm specification for three years; a third-degree felony count of tampering with evidence; and three second-degree felony counts of felonious assault, each with a three-year firearm specification.

The indictment alleged that Wilson knowingly caused or attempted to cause bodily harm to the shooting victim by means of a firearm and that he engaged in conduct which, if successful, would have led to the crime of murder by shooting and striking the victim. girl.

Washington County District Attorney Nicole Coil clarified that the felony attempt charge is for attempted murder. She said previous charges included in an Oct. 8 indictment for Wilson will be dismissed and the charges in Wednesday’s indictment will supersede the original charges.

Madison Marie Brant, 23, 707 Sixth St., Marietta, was charged as a co-defendant with Wilson with third-degree felony tampering with evidence and fourth-degree felony inducing panic with specification a firearm of one. year.

The indictment said Brant had a firearm on or about her while committing the crime of inducing panic.

Coil said previous charges included in an Oct. 8 indictment, which included three counts of second-degree felonious assault, will be dismissed and the charges in Wednesday’s indictment will supersede the original charges.

The charges against Wilson and Brant stem from their alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred around 12:55 a.m. Sept. 28 in the parking lot of Advance Auto Parts at 200 Greene St. Marietta. Police previously told The Times officers were responding to a call at Fourth and Putnam Streets when they heard gunshots downtown and responded to the scene to find a woman had been shot in the face but was still conscious. Police discovered 38 shell casings at the scene and determined that four people with four handguns were involved in the shooting.

The other two suspects involved in the shooting, Ashton J. Dugan, 20, 1046 Laird Ave., Parkersburg, and Brendon M. Pierce, 18, 3109 Elm St., Parkersburg, were also indicted Wednesday as co-defendants, on a third. – degree of crime of evidence falsification; one fourth-degree felony count of aggravated assault, each with a firearm specification for three years; and one second-degree felony count of obstructing official business.

The indictment states that Dugan and Pierce each had a firearm on their person and knowingly attempted to cause Wilson bodily harm by means of a firearm.

Wilson has not yet been arraigned on the charges in the new indictment, and Washington County Jail records show he was arrested Oct. 8 on the old charges and has not been released. No bond has yet been set for the new charges.

Brant has not yet been arraigned on the charges in the new indictment, nor has bond been set for them. Jail records show she was arrested Oct. 17 on the old charges and released Oct. 22.

Dugan was arraigned Wednesday and pleaded not guilty. A personal recognizance bond was ordered on all charges, with one condition being no contact with Wilson, Pierce or the victim without an attorney present. Jail records show he was arrested and released Wednesday.

According to court records, Dugan’s trial is set for 9 a.m. Feb. 11 with Washington County Common Pleas Court Judge John Halliday presiding.

Pierce has not yet been arraigned and has not entered a plea to the charge, according to court records.

According to jail records, Pierce was booked into jail on Oct. 11 and released on Oct. 11 after bond was set at a total of $30,000 on charges of obstructing official business, tampering with evidence and attempted aggravated assault .

According to court records, no bond has been set for the charges included in the indictment, some of which are different from the charges listed at the time of Pierce’s arrest.

Bumbalough, 56, of Beverly, was also charged Wednesday with one fifth-degree felony count of obstructing official business and one count of first-degree domestic violence.

The charges stem from an Oct. 6 incident at Bumbalough’s residence involving a 14-year-old family member, during which the child claims he was in a verbal argument with a woman at the home, and Bumbalough was involved in quarrel and addressed it. her bed, and in doing so struck her in the face, breaking her glasses and injuring her right eye.

There was also a claim made in Marietta Municipal Court documents by the Beverly police officer who responded to the incident at Bumbalough’s residence that the officer handled the call differently because it involved Bumbalough and he believed the Washington County Sheriff’s Office should have received the call, but Bumbalough did not tell him to call the Sheriff’s Office.

Bumbalough was booked into the Washington County Jail on Oct. 8 on the charges and was released on Oct. 9, jail staff previously told The Times.

A hearing was held Oct. 16 in Marietta Municipal Court, during which the felony charge was initially dismissed and no action was taken on the misdemeanor charges, and during which it was noted that the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office requested a prosecutor special from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. .

Marietta City Law Director Paul Bertram is the special prosecutor for Bumbalough’s case, according to the indictment. No hearings or trial have yet been set for Bumbalough in Washington County Common Pleas Court.
