Sri Lankan coconut products showcased for the first time at Saudi Agriculture Expo 2024 – Breaking News


The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority, successfully organized the first ever participation of ten Sri Lankan companies producing coconut products at the the 41st edition of Saudi Agriculture Expo 2024, organized in Riyadh. from 21 to 24 October 2024.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad, officially inaugurated the Sri Lankan pavilion at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre, a statement from the mission said.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Ajwad said that the participation of a large number of Sri Lankan companies producing coconut products for the first time in this 40-year-old Saudi Arabia’s most popular Agricultural Expo in the region The Middle East was a big step forward. He also called on other companies in the agricultural sector in Sri Lanka to take advantage of this opportunity to showcase their products in the years to come. He pointed out that such participation would help immensely in boosting Sri Lanka’s export products in the international markets and facilitate the expansion of Sri Lanka’s export basket.

The ambassador also highlighted the relevance of the participation of Sri Lankan coco peat exporting companies at the Saudi Agricultural Exhibition in light of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious “Green Initiative”, which aims to plant 10 million trees as part of Vision 2030. Peat coconut, a preferred growing medium in arid climates, could be promoted to support such green initiatives.

HRH Prince Mutab bin Fahd bin Farhan, Advisor to His Highness, Chairman of the Board of Directors of King Abdulaziz Reserve and King Salman Reserve, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia Dr. Ali Alshaikhi and Vice President of the Federation of Saudi Chambers and the President to the Saudi NAF Fayez Al-Shaheeli Group of Companies visited the Sri Lankan pavilion at the invitation of Ambassador Ameer Ajwad and held productive discussions.

The Sri Lankan trade delegation also had a networking session with Saudi Green Building Forum representatives on the sidelines of the Expo. Ambassador Ajwad hosted a luncheon in honor of the Sri Lankan trade delegation at the Saudi Agricultural Exhibition and held a feedback session with the delegation.

More than 370 exhibitors from 29 countries participated in this 41st edition of the Saudi Agriculture Expo, which brought together leading companies in the agricultural sector from around the world to showcase their products, including cutting-edge technologies and solutions in the agricultural sector. Conferences and insightful discussions led by industry experts and entrepreneurs, were organized during the Expo to network and create new business opportunities among participants in the agricultural sector.
