Hayley Erbert reveals she has “a medical team around” when she dances after her emergency surgery

The dancer was in the middle of her and her husband Derek Hough’s Dansa Symphonic tour when she was rushed to hospital with a brain haemorrhage in December 2023.

Hayley Erbert Hough is opening up about life since her medical scare.

talking with Entertainment tonightThe dancer, 30, opened up about taking care of her health after her emergency surgery in December 2023.

“I just listen to my body,” Hayley said alongside her husband Derek Hough ahead of their holiday tour, Derek Hough: Dance for the Holidays. “Being a dancer, I feel like I’m really in tune with my body.”

He added: “I still have a medical team around.”

Hayley’s emergency surgery came after she was hospitalized for a cranial hematoma, which is characterized by blood pooling in the skull. He underwent an emergency craniectomy.

Speaking about his concerns when it comes to his wife dancing, Derek, 39, said E.T“I’m who I am, ‘What, what?’ “

“It’s true, he’s the one with the nerves,” Hayley added, to which her husband continued: “‘We don’t have to do that.’ “

“And she’s like, ‘Baby, I can do it.’ But it puts me at ease,” Derek told the network.

The couple were in the middle of their Symphony of Dance tour in Washington, DC, when Hayley was rushed to the hospital with a brain hemorrhage.

Earlier this month, Derek recalled that his wife was still in her prom dress when she was hospitalized as Hayley wheeled her back to the Dancing with the stars ballroom with an emotional performance with Derek in the live show on Tuesday, October 15.

“Everything came to a screeching halt,” Derek recalled of the moment in a video package on the ABC show. “I was on stage, and she was supposed to come off. The stage manager came out and said, ‘Hey, she’s not going on stage.’ I was on the side of the stage in full-blown seizures and , basically, dying. It’s very hard to even put it into words other than pure fear.”

“We rushed her to the hospital, she’s still wearing her costume, and the doctor came to me and said, ‘She’s got a serious brain bleed, so we have to operate right now.’ DWTS continued the judge. “He said he might not make it and even if he does, he won’t be the same person.”

The duo will open up more about their story in an upcoming documentary, set for release in 2025.

“Jason Bergh, he’s an award-winning filmmaker,” Derek said E.T. “He came into the studio, he continued to film, he continued to accompany us on hospital visits, he went on the road with us and captured the whole journey because he is very powerful, he is very beautiful and he is amazing” .
