Obituary Specification:

Name of the deceased,

A photo in a JPEG or PDF file is preferred, TIF and other files are accepted, we will contact you if there are any problems with the photo.
Ad serving dates
There is a discount for running more than one day, but this must be scheduled on the first run date to apply.
If a photo is used it must be used on both days for the discount to apply, contact us for more information.

Policies:

Death Verification:

A funeral home/cremation company name and phone number is required for obituaries to be published. We must contact the funeral home/cremation company handling the arrangements during business hours to verify the death. If the deceased’s body was donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program, or a similar program, the phone number is required for verification.

Please allow plenty of time to contact them, especially during their limited weekend hours.

A death certificate is also acceptable for this purpose, but only one of these two options is required.

Guestbook and external sites:

We are not permitted to reference other media sources with a guestbook or obituary placed elsewhere when placing an obituary in print and online. Instead, we can place a website for a funeral home or a family email for contact; contact us with any questions related to this issue.

The obituary process:

Once your submission is complete, we will fax or email a proof for review before publication in the newspaper. This proof includes the price and the days the ad is scheduled to appear.

After publication, we will not be responsible for any errors that may appear after final verification.

Online:

All obituaries appear on TwinCities.com with a permanent online presence in the guestbook. If you want to remove your online presence, you can contact us to remove your online guestbook. Changes to an online obituary can be managed through the obituary office. Call us with additional questions.

Payment procedure:

Advance payment is required for all obituaries prior to publication by the deadline specified below in our deadline schedule. Please call 651-228-5263 with your payment information after you have received the proof and approved its contents.

Rates:

The minimum charge is $162 for the first 10 lines.
Each line after the first 10 is $12.20.
If the ad has less than 10 lines, the minimum rate of $162 will be charged.
On a second broadcast date, lines are $8.20 per line, starting with the first line.
For example: if the first run date was 20 lines, the cost would be $164.
Each published photo costs $125 per day.
For example: 2 newspaper photos in 2 days would mean 4 photo fees at $500.

MEMORIAM REQUEST (NON-NOBITUARY).

Unlike an obituary, Memoriam submissions are remembrances of a loved one who has passed away. Fees for a memoriam differ from an obituary.
