Lily Allen has been famously brunette for much of her career, but has recently transformed into a redhead, with her latest cut drawing surprising comparisons to a music legend.

The Smile hitmaker, 39, unveiled his new cut to his 1.7 million followers this week and was instantly compared to the great David Bowie.

Lily, who previously sported a sleek, straight hairstyle with sweeping bangs, now sports a bright orange mullet, with her long hair cut into a shaggy bun.

The photos she shared showed her new look from all angles, with her hair sitting just above her shoulders.

Pulling off the rock chic look with ease, the LDN singer posed in a beige sweater and chunky gold bracelets, a Hermes handbag resting on her arm.

In a nod to the Starman icon, who died in 2016, Lily wrote in her caption: “Getting Ziggy with this.” Thanks @Hermes for having me last night. It’s always a pleasure.’

Taking note of the comments, fans were quick to shower her with compliments.

‘Of course you look good with a mullet too. Obviously!!! 😩🧑’ wrote user claraboia.

‘Wow I love it! Best style you’ve had yet and everyone loves it 😍’ said theoldpotatostore.

‘Yes, Queen Bowie!’, mal_al_b exclaimed.

‘Hell yes! Ziggy Stardust looks SO good on you ⚑️,’ echoed charlottesometimes.x.

Lily was also compared to Rihanna, who is known for her ever-changing hairstyles, having sported everything from a raven bob to flame curls over the years.

The pop star’s image overhaul comes as she continues to make headlines with comments about her personal life.

In a heartbreaking confession, she recently admitted she had children for the “wrong” reasons.

Lily is the mother of two daughters, Marnie, 12, and Ethel, 11, who she shares with ex-husband Sam Cooper.

During an episode of her hit BBC podcast Miss Me?, Lily told best friend Miquita Oliver that she felt pressured to start a family.

“I think I had kids for all the wrong reasons, really, because I craved unconditional love, which I haven’t felt in my life since I was little,” she shared.

Lily added: β€œAlso, my career was so high-speed, you know, high-pressure, and I’m a people pleaser, and I was, like, really overwhelmed by what was going on.

“I haven’t had much respite and I felt like the only way to keep people from bothering me, it’s not about me, it’s about this other person inside of me.”

Lily has also recalled heartbreaking events in her personal life, such as the time she was sexually assaulted by a man she worked with.

Explaining her shock, she revealed her close friends were standing up for the attacker, describing the moment of her life as “really awful”.

Stating that she “went public” about what had happened to her, Lily was shocked when “no one put anything forward to protect (her) or what had happened to her”.
