Shell contained an oil spill in Singapore, which guarantees no operational impact

Shell has confirmed that an oil leak over the weekend from a pipeline at its Shell Singapore Energy and Chemical Park on Bukom Island has not affected operations. The company quickly contained the leak, which dumped an estimated 30 to 40 metric tons of oil and water into the sea.

Stoppage of the leak and ongoing cleanup efforts are underway with the support of the relevant authorities. A Shell spokesman said Bukom’s operations and supply are not affected. This incident follows the scheduled maintenance shutdown of one of Bukom’s crude oil distillation units and other facilities in August.

In a strategic move, Shell sold its Singapore refinery and petrochemical plants to a joint venture of Chandra Asri and Indonesia’s Glencore, with completion expected in 2024. Previous disruptions in the region included beach closures in Sentosa Island due to oil spills from a nearby marine terminal. .
