Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon reacts after Curtis Jones’ display in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Chelsea

Liverpool remain at the top of the Premier League table after a hard-fought 2-1 win against Chelsea at Anfield.

Jamie Carragher compared Arne Slot to Jurgen Klopp during the game, as the Dutchman had taken over from the German in the summer.

Liverpool went ahead with a penalty from Mohamed Salah, but Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson hooked him.

But Curtis Jones put the Reds ahead again soon after, securing a big win for Slot and the Merseyside club.

In the only real downside to their Premier League clash at Anfield, Liverpool lost Diogo Jota to injury, with the Portuguese striker forced off early with the problem.

Former Everton man Gordon and Liverpool star Jones have both been selected in recent England squads, which has certainly helped their friendship.

But on Sunday it was the Reds midfielder who produced one of his best displays in a Liverpool shirt.

He was ready to impress from the first minute at Anfield and stepped up after Slot decided to rest Alexis Mac Allister early on.

It was a truly mature and professional performance from the academy graduate, who has now given his manager a real headache going forward.

Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have largely been the preferred midfield trio so far, but that could all change after Jones’ impressive display.
