Nick Nurse reveals latest update on 2 injured Sixers

Injuries have been an ever-present issue in the preseason for the Philadelphia 76ers, having had to deal with Paul George leaving his second game with a hyperextended knee or the decision to rest the former MVP Joel Embiid before the regular season.

The team would suffer another scare on Friday night when they faced the Orlando Magic as Tyrese Maxey left the game early after injuring his thumb.

Sixers head coach Nick Nurse provided an update on the one-time All-Star’s health on Sunday afternoon, explaining that his decision not to return against Orlando was just a precaution.

“It’s okay, yeah, it’s okay,” the nurse explained, “Just a precaution, they hit my hand, nothing, there, it’s pretty good.”

While the immediate concern surrounded the 23-year-old’s health, Nurse also provided a quick update on Jared McCain, following his injury against the Brooklyn Nets, which was ruled to be a lung contusion.

The Sixers head coach feels the first-round pick is progressing well in his recovery, having done some cardio earlier in the week.”

“I think again he’s progressed really well, he’s been out on the track and moving and running hard on the treadmill and things like that…” stated the nurse.

Although the former Duke guard has resumed cardio work as well as court activities, Nurse does not know if he will be fully involved in Monday’s practice session.

“We’ll see how he is tomorrow and if he rejoins us, I would assume he’ll be joining us again for parts of tomorrow, but we’ll see how far he goes,” the nurse explained.

From there, the Sixers will have a few days ahead of their season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.
