Jeremy Clarkson has revealed he had an emergency heart procedure following a “sudden deterioration” in his health.

The 64-year-old spoke of the “wearying effects of ageing” following his health scare.

Clarkson said a swim while on holiday in the Indian Ocean appeared to cause her difficulty using the stairs, which when she returned home meant “a sudden deterioration started to pick up”.

He said he had symptoms of being “humble”, with a “tightness in his chest” and “pins and needles in his left arm”.

After learning that former Scottish Prime Minister Alex Salmond had a fatal heart attack, he decided to go see his doctor.

Writing in The Sunday Times, Clarkson said he went to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital in an ambulance, where a heart attack was ruled out after an electrocardiogram (ECG), blood tests and X-rays. .

He said he then went into an “operating room” after more checks and doctors said he might be “days away” from getting very sick.

“It seems that of the arteries that were feeding my heart with nutritious blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was going that way,” Clarkson said.

He said a stent, which can save lives and stop future heart attacks by improving blood flow to the heart, was installed in about two hours.

“It wasn’t particularly painful. Just weird,” he said, adding that he’s been thinking, “Crikey, that was close.”

Clarkson concluded by saying she was “wondering what water tastes like and whether it’s possible to make celery interesting” after the health scare, as she appeared to be considering cutting back on her meat intake.

He has previously revealed that he had to quit smoking after contracting pneumonia while on holiday in Spain.
