Luke Littler’s stunned opponent throws darts into the ground as he breaks the record at the Czech Darts Open | Other | sport

Nathan Aspinall was left throwing his darts on the floor after being hit by Luke Littler at the Czech Open. The teenager was at his best in Prague, winning 6-1 to progress to the last 16.

Littler produced a three-dart average of 110.43 during the clash, a new tournament record.

And his finish was also merciless, he took out 91, 128, 88 and 124 to reach Aspinall.

‘The Asp’ simply had no answer to Littler’s play, and he made light of his helplessness after his opponent drew double 11 to seal things up. He made a point of throwing all three darts into the ground, but laughed after doing so.

“Nathan Aspinall throws his darts, but what can you do against it?” said a PDC commentator. “It’s an average tournament record for the 17-year-old in his first appearance at the Czech Darts Open.”

Aspinall then made a point of congratulating Littler on her performance as the pair embraced. And ‘the Nuke’, who tried out a new darts game during the midweek Players Championship events, was more than pleased afterwards.

“I’m happy with that,” he said. “I know what I can throw with these darts and that’s why I didn’t play with the golds. There was a lot of talk about changing my darts, so I came in this weekend and made the decision to go back to what I know best.”

Littler Know will face Damon Heta on Sunday afternoon, and will be hard to beat if he can reproduce his form from Saturday night. “It went well tonight,” he added. “If I play like this again tomorrow, I will be very happy.”

However, Australian player Heta did his best to book his own place in the round of 16. He beat Gabriel Clemens 6-3, averaging over 102.

Premier League champion Littler is aiming for a third European Tour title in what has already been an impressive 2024 season. He has also lifted silver at the Austrian and Belgian Open events.

World No. 1 Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen also won on Saturday. Humphries, who has been locked in an exciting rivalry with Littler since they met in the PDC World Championship final at Ally Pally in January, produced a 10-dart leg and also averaged over 100 when beat Ritchie Edhouse 6-2.
