With the launch of the iPhone 16, the rumor mill has started to pick up steam regarding next year’s iPhone 17 series. However, through the muddy, opaque waters, it looks like we’re getting more of the same, which could be read as confirmation of leaks already released.

Haitong International analyst Jeff Pu published a research note, seen by Apple Insider, outlining the details of the iPhone 17 Air (or Slim) and the potential features of the iPhone 17 Pro models.

Pu’s note seems to confirm the rumors he’s already posted about the iPhone 17 lineup, but there are some tweaks.

iPhone 17 Air / Slim

The iPhone 17 Air or Slim will reportedly feature a 6.6-inch screen and is supposed to replace the Plus model in the lineup. Something we already knew.

According to Pu, it will be powered by a 3nm A19 chip, similar to the A18 Pro in the iPhone 16 Pro models. This seems to confirm that the rumored 2nm chip will be delayed in the iPhone 18, as reported earlier this week.

He also reiterated that the Slim will feature 8GB of RAM, which lines up with the notes he released in May.

For a lighter feel, beyond being ultra-thin, Pu has proposed that the Slim be made of aluminum, similar to the existing Plus model.

For cameras, it has suggested that it will have a single 48MP rear sensor and a 24MP front-facing camera with built-in Face ID.

The note is vaguely supposed to state that the iPhone 17 slim will have an “all-new design,” but what that implies was not made clear.

iPhone 17 Pro models

Apparently, MacRumors also got access to Pu’s research note and took away different information, mostly about next year’s iPhone 17 Pro phones.

In his read, Pu reiterated earlier claims that the Pro and Pro Max will feature a 48MP telephoto rear camera and a 24MP front-facing camera. Pro models currently include 12MP versions of both cameras.

Expect the Pro models to eventually make the jump to 12GB of RAM, which it claimed back in May.

Pu apparently believes the iPhone 17 Pro Max will sport a “very small dynamic island,” which he attributes to smaller metal for Face ID. How much smaller wasn’t relayed, but it would be the first change to the island since the iPhone 14 Pro models.

He appears to have repeated his previous claim that the Pro and Pro Max will retain the 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screen sizes that debuted on the iPhone 16 versions.

Finally, he has stated that Apple will not split the chips again and will continue to use the same A19 chip family in all iPhone 17 models, similar to how this year’s entire iPhone 16 lineup includes some form of the A18 system on chip.

It should be noted that while prolific, Pu has a hit and miss record in predicting Apple’s future moves. That said, the latest reports from him seem to line up with similar rumors from more accurate Apple whisperers like Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
