New York Liberty Drop Game 1 Heartbreaker in 2024 WNBA Finals

BROOKLYN — The Minnesota Lynx bit into the New York Liberty’s lead and refused to let go.

Minnesota erased a huge Liberty lead with 5:20 left and escaped with a shocking 95-93 overtime victory in Game 1 of the 2024 WNBA Finals.

Courtney Williams was the original hero with a four-point play with just over five seconds left in regulation, capping an 18-2 run for the Lynx that erased an 81-66 lead with 5:20 left on the clock in the match

Breanna Stewart got to the two free throw line with less than a second left, but split the pair to force overtime before Napheesa Collier hit the winner with eight ticks remaining. Stewart’s last drive didn’t get a foul call, dooming New York to another Game 1 loss in a WNBA Finals series…sixth in as many appearances.

The second game of the series will be hosted on Atlantic Avenue on Sunday afternoon (3 p.m. ET, ABC).
