The Addiction Center of Broome Co. plans a clinic in Binghamtons first ward

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The Addiction Center of Broome County, or ACBC, announced plans to turn a first Binghamton ward building into a clinic for patients with substance abuse disorders.

At a Binghamton Planning Commission meeting, the ACBC provided project details for 15 Charles St.

The plan is to convert the building into an outpatient clinic and substance use disorder rehabilitation program. Plans for 41 clinical offices, 12 group therapy rooms, four medical exam rooms, 77 care manager offices, a fitness center and a yoga room were discussed at the meeting.

An ACBC representative at the meeting expressed the need for a clinic in the community.

“Some of that space is planned for the future, obviously, but unfortunately the customer base is not shrinking, it’s expanding,” the ACBC said. “So they anticipate that there will be a need that outgrows even this building.”

Currently, the third floor of 15 Charles Street houses vacant apartments. Officials said the space could be used for transitional living. The ACBC noted that plans for transitional living will be discussed further in the future.

A discussion about the clinic will be reviewed at a Binghamton Planning Commission meeting in November.
