Yoruba movie ‘Lakatabu’ with a prominent cast has topped the Prime Video movie chart in Nigeria, resonating with local audiences.

In second place is “Brothers,” a thriller about twin criminals involved in a high-stakes heist.

“Hounds of War,” an action story about a mercenary seeking revenge for his comrades, takes third place.

Other notable films include the comedy “Muri and Ko,” which follows a small-time crook’s unexpected bond with his kidnapped victim, taking fourth place. The fifth is “Atunwa” (Reincarnation), a thriller that explores supernatural themes.

Crime thriller “Killer Heat” and suspense drama “Offshoot” take the sixth and seventh spots, respectively. The top 10 is completed by “House of Spoils”, “Beast of Two Worlds (Ajakaju)” and the comedy “Alaye”.

“Lakatabu”, which premiered on June 21, 2024, made a significant impact in the Nigerian movie industry. Data from the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) shows that it was the highest-grossing Nollywood film between June 21 and June 27, 2024, generating close to N65 million in that week alone.

The film earned N47 million in its opening weekend, marking it as the third-highest opening of 2024 with over 11,000 theater admissions. Within a week, the revenue rose to N94 million. By June 30, 2024, “Lakatabu” had grossed N126 million, eventually crossing N200 million.
