The man asks for a window seat, it surprises him what he does when the passenger does not change

A flight passenger was shocked by what his flight mate decided to do when he refused to change seats.

A Reddit user with the handle u/liberty340 shared a photo of an airplane window with the blind closed on the social media platform, telling people on the r/mildly infuriating subreddit what had happened.

In the post, which has received more than 66,000 upvotes and thousands of comments, the original poster (OP) said: “(The) guy sitting next to me on the plane wants to change seats (he was in a the window) he refused, held out his shoulder and closed the window.”

The OP said that when they opened the window, the nearby passenger asked them to close it because he wanted to take a nap. When the OP ignored him, he called the flight attendant for help, which the Redditor called a “fucking moment.”

“He ended up sleeping, but I’m still p ***** about it,” they wrote.

Commenting on the incident, national etiquette expert Diane Gottsman said Newsweek: “Getting to someone to close the shade is still an invasion of personal space. Instead of taking it upon themselves to close the shade, I should have asked if they would mind closing the shade because I had the sun in the eyes or whatever the reason.

“It seems like an act of aggression rather than a simple gesture given the fact that (the OP) didn’t want to change seats. Not to mention the fact that someone is approaching someone else’s body.”

She added: “He told them that he would like to take a nap and it would have been polite for them to turn on the light to read or oblige another passenger if it was reasonable. The emotions of both parties were involved in this situation.”

In an interview with Simple Flying, sleep expert James Smith said that a window seat can be the best place to get some shut-eye while on a flight, as you’ll be provided with a wall to rest your head on and also no they must get up when other people in line need to use the bathroom.

Among the thousands of responses to the Reddit post were people sharing similar difficult experiences with other passengers.

User u/OopsAllLegs commented: “One time a guy asked to switch with me because he had an aisle seat. I’m 6’5 and need to stretch my legs every now and then or my knees start hurting. I told him firmly say that No, I specifically paid for that seat and that it was much taller than him.

“In my best angry dad voice, I said, ‘Is that what we’re going to do? Start shitting before our 4 hour flight because if you do, it’s going to be an uncomfortable flight.” He dropped it and didn’t look at me for the rest of the flight.”

Others seemed equally frustrated with the Redditor’s plight, with u/ Sea-Poetry-950 writing: “What gets me is that it hits your shoulder? Dude, don’t even go there.”

u/ Autumnwood simply said, “Oh people. If I wanted a window seat, I should have reserved one.”

u/ Some-Statement7360 said: “I would keep opening it, it can find a different seat.”

“I would have put it back while looking at him with a ‘balls in your court’ expression,” said Initial-Wrongdoer938.
