Botched Warhol Heist: Arrest Made

A 23-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in connection with an attempted art theft at a gallery in southern Holland that targeted four valuable Andy Warhol silkscreens.

Authorities reported that the suspect was detained days after thieves broke into a gallery in Oisterwijk last week, seizing two screen prints from a series featuring former queens of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark and Eswatini. The other two prints were badly damaged and left behind by the robbers as they escaped.

Police have not yet revealed whether the missing artworks have been recovered during a series of operations in Oisterwijk and surrounding areas, including Belgium. Mark Peet Visser, owner of the gallery, said the stolen prints have not been found and a restorer is assessing the extent of the damage to the other two. In the security footage, Visser described the thieves as “amateurs”, noting that they left two fingerprints behind because they didn’t fit in their getaway vehicle.
