Put a smile on a child’s face this Christmas

Local charity Walk in Faith’s annual Box of Blessing (BOB) Christmas cheer project is well under way but still needs donations for 196 of the 400 child beneficiaries.

The initiative, now in its 11th year, collects boxes filled with goodies, which will be distributed at Christmas.

The BOB project provides the most disadvantaged children with a box of basic necessities, toys and clothes during the festive period.

Each wrapped A4 box can include a school or sports bag with some toiletries, a few snacks (up to three), a pair of socks and a gift from the child’s wish list.

There are nearly 400 underprivileged children on the Walk in Faith database, and the public is invited to sponsor a unique, personalized box for each.

NPO founder Merinda Ackerman said the box can’t be filled with just anything, as there is a specific wish list that donors are asked to fulfill.

“Please keep the price limit at R350 and don’t spoil the child – he may have a sibling who receives a ‘less elaborate’ box, which may cause unnecessary damage.

“Walk in Faith also asks donors to fill the box with new, unopened items.

“We need sponsors and some only donate certain items to the box, so we have to make sure each box is full.

Donor options:

Option 1: Make a financial donation of between R300 and R350 to a specific child on the list, and the shopping and packing will be done on your behalf.

Option 2: Choose a specific child from the list, purchase the items and pack the box/bag.

Option 3: Form a group with your friends, family or co-workers and select one or more children from the list.

Option 4: Choose a specific child from the list, purchase all items, drop off the items, and Walk in Faith will pack the blessing box on your behalf.

The identities of the children on the list are confidential and no information can be released to the public.

All donations should be dropped off at 38 Raphia Palm, Arboretum.
