Carbondale man found guilty of attempted first-degree murder

CARBONDALE, Illinois (KFVS) – A Carbondale man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempted first-degree murder.

Cody Simon, 21, was sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections for stabbing a Carbondale resident, according to a news release from Jackson County State’s Attorney Joe Cervantez.

Simon will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence, followed by mandatory supervised release for up to three years.

Carbondale police responded to the 900 block of East Park Avenue on Feb. 21 around 12:07 p.m. due to reported stabbing.

Police found a victim with multiple stab wounds. The seriously injured person was taken to surrounding hospitals.

Witnesses told officers Simon stabbed the victim multiple times during the fight.

Simon was taken into custody later that morning and charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery.

He confessed his crime for attempted first-degree murder in May.
