‘Monster’ Cooper Koch Reveals Why He’s Wearing a Wedding Ring (And No, He’s Not Married!)

“I just wanted to please, get people out a little bit and see what they’d say,” Koch said wryly.

Cooper Koch is not married, but he proudly wears a ring on his left finger.

While appearing on the October 16 episode of Sirius XM’s Andy Cohen livethe Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez The actor revealed why he was wearing a wedding ring despite not being married.

After being quizzed by host Andy Cohen about the gem, which piqued the interest of fans earlier this week after an appearance on Watch What Happens liveKoch explained that she planned to accompany her brother Payton to the Emmy Awards when she was looking for accessories to complete her look. (Payton had been nominated for his edit on Hulu’s Only kills in the building.)

“We were getting ready and I wasn’t wearing any jewelry,” she recalled. “And I was with my boyfriend and we went into my room and I was looking through my jewelry, and I had this ring that was my grandfather’s, and I was like, ‘Oh, I should just wear that ring,'” and then we were like I put it on my ring finger and it became a romantic protection mechanism, I don’t know.”

“I just wanted to please the travel crowd a little bit and see what they would say,” Koch added.

Although his boyfriend isn’t wearing a ring on his left finger, the actor assured fans that his partner is “very committed to me as much as I am to him.”

“We’ve talked about it and we need to make a ring for it, but it’s really more like a nice totem pole,” he smiled.

From the premiere of Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez at the end of September, Koch has become a breakout star of the crime series directed by Ryan Murphy. The Netflix show tells the real-life story of the murder by Erik (Koch) and Lyle Menéndez (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) of their parents José and Mary Louse “Kitty” Menéndez. He then follows them to the subsequent trial in the early 1990s.

The brothers murdered their parents in their family home in Beverly Hills in August 1989, and Lyle later called 911 crying to find her parents dead as they returned home from a movie.

While many have praised the performances of Koch and Chavez in the drama, the series has come under fire from not only audiences but also the real-life Menendez brothers for their portrayal.
