Man suspected of robbing Braintree bank at gunpoint in custody, police say

The man suspected of robbing a Braintree bank at gunpoint on Friday has been arrested, according to police.

The suspect allegedly entered the Eastern Bank on Granite Street around 10:43 a.m. and robbed the business while brandishing a gun.

Witnesses told responding officers that a man matching the suspect’s description ran from the building and into the woods on Granite Street.

Braintree High School was placed on “lock-out” out of an abundance of caution while police searched with K9s and aerial resources for the suspect.

The suspect was arrested after he emerged from the woods on West Street around 11:00 a.m.

The man, whose name has not been released, is likely to face charges, Braintree police said.

Police have shared photos of the suspect on social media that appear to show the man in gray sweatpants and a hoodie wielding a gun at a cash register and leaving with the money in a child’s backpack.

Scores of police cars could be seen circling the East Bank shortly before midday.

“We want to thank the neighborhood and witnesses not only for their understanding, but also for their diligence in assisting the police in their investigation. As always, we appreciate the help of members of our community,” said Braintree Police.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
